4A Division I State Championship, 12 pm Saturday
Byrnes (13-1) vs. Dorman (13-1)
For the first time since 1994, the teams in the 4A Div. I State Championship are from Spartanburg County. Byrnes is looking for its 10th state championship, while Dorman is trying to even its 1-2 state title record. In Week 9, the Rebels edged the Cavaliers 17-10 in a close battle and it was lowest offensive output for each team this season. The Rebels are led by RB Marcus Lattimore, who currently holds over 2400 total yards and 34 touchdowns this season. Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, Lattimore plays his best in state championship games, scoring 7 TDs in the past two championship games. Dorman's key in this game is not only containing Lattimore (the 2009 SC Gatorade Player of the Year) but also being able to score against the stiff Byrnes defense. Regardless, the past three matchups turned out to be classic rivalry matchups, and this huge game should be the best yet.
3A State Championship, 6 pm Saturday
Clinton (11-3) vs. Myrtle Beach (13-1)
The Red Devils continue their Cindrella story against defending champ Myrtle Beach this Saturday. The Seahawks only lost to Byrnes this season, and have demolished every 3A opponent this season. Clinton's advantage is its Wishbone offense that gains "3 yards and a cloud of dust" but consistently runs down the game clock. Myrtle Beach, however, owns one of the best junior QBs in the country, Everett Golson. Golson has thrown 47 TDs this season and he will challenge the Clinton secondary on every play. Keep an eye out for this potential upset!
