Next Stop: Columbia


 

Nine Upstate teams had the chance to play for a berth in the state championship games at the Upper State Finals, held this weekend at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum. Five advanced to title games next week in Columbia.

Here’s a look at the weekend’s action:

FRIDAY NIGHT
Group AAAA Girls

Dorman got 20 points from sophomore center Ashlen Dewart and defeated South Pointe 55-45.

    Group AAAA Boys
    Wren kept it close for most of the game, but Spartanburg’s Zycorrian Robinson hit three consecutive 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to quiet the Hurricanes. The Vikings advanced to Columbia with a 65-55 win.

    SATURDAY
    Group A Girls

    Christ Church Episcopal’s season ended as Shalika Smalls scored 38 points and Hunter-Kinard-Tyler dominated the second and third periods in a 62-47 victory.

    Group A Boys
    Calhoun County extended its winning streak to 77 straight games and is one game away from a third straight state title after an 84-47 victory over Dixie. The Hornets end their season 17-5 after their deepest playoff run in more than 30 years. Dixie’s Yavario Smith led all scorers with 23 points in the losing effort.

    Keenan was too much for the Broome Centurions, claiming a 53-34 victory and ending Broome’s season

    The Southside Tigers rolled out to a big first-half lead and kept going in a dominating 75-40 victory over Keenan.

    The J.L. Mann Lady Patriots will go for their third straight state Group AAA title after a 61-49 win over Blythewood. Mann faces Myrtle Beach in the Championship game.

    Greenville vs. Chester
    The Red Raiders will face Myrtle Beach for a state Group AAA title after beating Chester 68-53 on Saturday night.
